I don't believe that old men in suits and ties should be able to make decisions about a women's body for her.

Take it as you like, "old men in suits and ties" is how American politics run today. The gift of being in a free country is that if we don't want "old men" running the show, we can work to change it.

Our government was set up to protect the rights of American citizens. The foundational rights of this country are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The pro-life "old men in suits" are not making laws to take away these foundational rights for women, rather, they are making laws to give these rights to the baby she is carrying.

I don't care about abortion

I don't care about abortion, please just shut up about it.

You should care. Here's why:

Our beloved nation has legally slaughtered over 53 million Americans. This means that for every six American cancer researchers, there should be a seventh; for every six American civil engineers, there should be a seventh; for every six American professors, there should be a seventh; and for every six friends you have, you should have a seventh. In the course of 36 years, our nation has killed 53 million of our own countrymen, with our own money. Every taxpaying American citizen financially supports this atrocity, not just in the United States but overseas as well. Abortion is something worth caring about, because we are paying the price.

Not a life until birth

I dont consider there to be life until the baby has left its mother and is breathing on its own.

Okay, So I'm going to assume that you're against killing a person once they are alive, right? This means that we must be sure, without a doubt, that there is absolutely no life before a baby is born. If there is even a possibility of life, it would be wrong to destroy it. Take, for example, a group of construction workers about to demolish a building. Before destroying it, they must double (and even triple) check to make sure that there is no life at all inside the structure. They would never demolish a building if there were any chance of someone being inside.

Here is a list of quotes from both doctors and textbooks which say that human life begins at conception. Maureen L. Condic, a doctor of Neurobiology and a professor at University of Utah School of Medicine, concludes that life begins at conception. Here is her paper, titled "When Does Human Life Begin?" There are countless professional arguments which state that human life begins well before the birth of a child. Therefore, if we cannot be absolutely sure that birth is the beginning of life, why are we killing the child before then?

I should not be the one defending when life begins. Rather, you should be proving to me that there is absolutely no life before we destroy it.

Imposing pro-life views on society

I don't believe that abortions are good, and I would never have one, but I don't think we should impose our views on the rest of society.

This is a very common argument against the pro-life movement and a favorite of politicians. The two versions of this argument that I most often hear deal with personal opinion imposed on government and religious opinion imposed on government. These two versions are very similar, and they tie together very nicely when we compare abortion to other atrocities. Slavery is a perfect example.

It's the year 1800, and you're talking with a friend about slavery. They say to you, "I don't believe that slavery is right, and I would never own one, but I do not think that we should impose our views on the rest of society." Looking at the issue from this angle changes the whole picture.

As for the argument of imposing one's religious views on government, lets again look back to the 1800’s and examine the movement to abolish slavery. The vast majority of abolitionists in the U.S. and Europe were devout Christians. Their religious convictions about the evils of slavery were the driving force behind the movement, and this ultimately freed millions of people around the world. If we're not going to allow religious beliefs to enter politics, then we need to reinstall slavery.

Beginning

I'm starting this blog because I believe there is a need for simple, straight forward, and logical answers to questions concerning the defense of innocent life.

I will post arguments against the right to life, and responses to these arguments. The responses will contain factual and logical proofs in the defense of life. The comment thread will be the main forum for any feedback or followup questions readers may have. I encourage all constructive and respectful arguments, and please email me with any questions or arguments you would like posted. I will also be posting world, local, and political news relevant to the mission of this blog.
